More heat on the way

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Central Okanagan with hotter temperatures expected to return later this week.

A building ridge of high pressure with rising temperatures is forecast to arrive at the end of this week. Daytime highs are expected to be near or above 35 degrees with overnight lows near or above 18 degrees, The hottest weather is expected to arrive from Thursday to Saturday.

However, smoke build up in the region may affect the high temperature forecasts.

Environment Canada is warning people to watch for the effects of heat illness, which include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

People are advised to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
